Substance Abuce Policy

Statement of the practice policy

This practice will provide for the General Medical Needs of people who have problems with substance abuse but will not provide a source of drugs.

General Medical Needs.

  • Diagnosis and treatment of Medical problems.
  • Advice and support on Medical Problems.
  • Referral to appropriate Agencies.
  • The services generally provided by a GP to a patient.

We will not prescribe:

  • Diazepam
  • Nitrazepam
  • Temazepam Temgesic
  • Dihydrocodeine
  • Any food supliments
  • Any other drugs considered inappropriate by the doctor.

The practice will not prescribe addictive drugs but will arrange for the referral of patients to agencies that have a particular expertise in this area.

 

The practice will, without hesitation, off-list patients under the following circumstances.

  1. Violence or the threat of violence to any doctor, nurse, staff member, patient or any individual connected with the practice.
  2. Damage or the threat of damage to any property connected with the practice.
  3. Any persistent or gross violation of the practice protocol.
  4. Persistent failure to attend or co-operate with outside agencies that the patient has been referred to.
  5. Coercion on the doctor to prescribe additional drugs.
