Statement of the practice policy
This practice will provide for the General Medical Needs of people who have problems with substance abuse but will not provide a source of drugs.
General Medical Needs.
- Diagnosis and treatment of Medical problems.
- Advice and support on Medical Problems.
- Referral to appropriate Agencies.
- The services generally provided by a GP to a patient.
We will not prescribe:
- Diazepam
- Nitrazepam
- Temazepam Temgesic
- Dihydrocodeine
- Any food supliments
- Any other drugs considered inappropriate by the doctor.
The practice will not prescribe addictive drugs but will arrange for the referral of patients to agencies that have a particular expertise in this area.
The practice will, without hesitation, off-list patients under the following circumstances.
- Violence or the threat of violence to any doctor, nurse, staff member, patient or any individual connected with the practice.
- Damage or the threat of damage to any property connected with the practice.
- Any persistent or gross violation of the practice protocol.
- Persistent failure to attend or co-operate with outside agencies that the patient has been referred to.
- Coercion on the doctor to prescribe additional drugs.
